Tofu with Minced Meat

Tofu with Minced Meat (肉酱豆腐) is one of my family’s favourite dishes and I have cooked it for many years but never got tired of it. This dish is really good with a bowl of warm fluffy white rice, and we often fought over the savoury gravy. Such humble home-cooked food (家常菜) is the reason why  I like to cook, because it taste so homely  and you can’t really order this type of food outside, well at least not so commonly.

Sometimes I also add mushrooms to it, making it a more balanced dish if I don’t have time to whip up another side dish of vegetables. I call this dish the localized version of the popular Sichuan dish, Mapo Tofu, without the numbing heat.

  4. Hi Wiffy,
    I’m a newbie in cooking.
I am learning from your blog and really love your detailed recipes!
May I ask a question… for minced meat bought from market, would you rinsed it with tap water before cooking?
    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Cam, no don’t wash meat which is already minced. Very messy.
If you like, you can go to wet market … usually can request the uncle to rinse the meat for you before mincing.
Or mince the meat yourself at home (but more work).

  8. LOVED this dish. So simple but super tasty – soothing with a bit of zing.
I chopped up chicken thigh by hand. Really liked the rough texture (I did use more: 150g)
I do not have taucheo/salted soya beans so I replaced it with 1/2 tsp miso and 1/2 tsp chili bean sauce. Because I already had that spice I left out the chili.
Thank you so much – I know I will have this dish many times over!!!!
