Orange Shrimp Salad Recipe

Orange Shrimp Salad Recipe

As a big short-cut, I used cooked frozen shrimps (prawns) purchased from Don Don Donki. Apart from Donki, shops specializing in frozen seafood usually sell such frozen cooked shrimps. They are a huge time-saver: just thaw and they are ready to be put in salads and dishes! Read the cooking note #1 if you prefer to cook the shrimps from scratch.

Check out the ingredients and step-by-step photos on the previous page.

Ingredients:

  • 100g chopped romaine (or any fav salad mix)
  • 10 frozen cooked prawns (shrimps) thaw before use; see cooking note below if cooking from scratch
  • half orange deseeded & cut to wedges
  • few cherry tomatoes halved
  • 1/4 section Japanese cucumber cut to half moons
  • half avocado pitted and cubed
  • chopped spring onions to garnish
  • toasted sesame seeds to garnish

(A) Soy Orange Dressing

  • 10 ml pure orange juice
  • 5 ml low sodium soy sauce
  • 5 ml sesame oil
  • tiny pinch of salt
  • dash of white pepper powder

Directions:

  1. Make salad dressing by adding (A) in a mini salad dressing bottle or in a small bowl. Shake the bottle or whisk the sauce in the bowl until well combined.
  2. Make salad. Line a large plate with chopped romaine (or mixed salad). Top the salad with the rest of the ingredients and serve with the prepared salad dressing at the side.

Cooking Note(s):

  1. To cook the shrimps from scratch, bring a pot of water to boil. Add prawns and boil until they are just cooked (less than 3 minutes). Peel and devein the prawns. This will add about 10-15 mins to this recipe.
  2. For a less savoury orange salad dressing without soy sauce, check out my orange vinaigrette recipe.

  1. Delightful! I could eat such a salad every day and not get tired of it.

  2. Pre-cooked shrimps are also available here but I nvr tried them before cos I usually wonder (worry) if they can be consumed straight from the pack (or needs to be re-heated/warmed up or something)
