Coca-Cola Chicken Wings

Coca-Cola Chicken Wings Recipe

In this classic Chinese recipe, Coke is used as the base of the simmering sauce, and it helps to tenderise and cameralise the chicken. The result is delicious, finger-licking good chicken wings with a sweet & sticky glaze.

  • 8 (about 320grams) mid joint chicken wings
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1-2 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 200 ml regular Coca-Cola (not diet or flavoured Coke)
  • 200 ml water
  • 3 garlic cloves peeled and bruised

  1. Marinade the chicken wings in light soy sauce, dark soy sauce and sesame oil for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in wok or saucepan and brown chicken on both sides.
  3. Add Coca-Cola, water, garlic and leftover marinade sauce. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sauce is reduced to a thick & sticky syrup, turning once halfway.

  3. hi. i tried this, but it didn’t turn out how i want it to be :(

    • same here. in my opinion the 1:1 ratio of coke to water is too diluted. my chicken wings swam happily in the coke water instead. LOL.

    • You need to simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sauce is reduced to a thick & sticky syrup,

    • mine also swam happily in the diluted coke water….already simmered it for more than 20 minutes….still didn’t work. I didn’t add that much coke too, added just enough to cover the chicken.

  4. Can I ask why coke zero can’t be use?

    • Coke Zero tastes different from the usual Coke, and contains artificial sweetener; however if you don’t mind you can still use it in this recipe.

  5. Tried it and love it! Even my 12month old daughter loves the wings… I tear the meat to small pieces and she loves it so much, she was even chewing on 1 whole wing herself. Will this work with root beer?

  6. Hi. Can I marinate the chicken wings overnight instead?

  7. if I were to, for example, double the number of wings used, should I double the portion of coke and water too? that would take forever to simmer the sauce till reduced though…

  8. Thank you for sharing such simple recipe. I had all the ingredients at home. It was easy and the wings turn out perfect. Thank you.

  9. I’ve tried this a couple of times and the chicken wings never turn out caramelized at all, and after 30 minutes of simmering the wings are still floating in ‘soup’. Is there a way to fix this?

  10. I think there’s something wrong with the recipe, with that amount of water added, there’s no way the sauce will thicken and caramelise no matter how long you cook it… I’ve cooked it for 1 hour and the wings are still floating. Do not add water and I think the recipe will work.
