Samyang Spicy Fried Chicken Ramen

Just for fun, I decided to post occassional reviews of the instant noodles I am currently eating and loving. Why not? Since instant foods are staples of a noob cook, I grew up on them (not milk, not rice) and still eat them frequently. I love to try out new flavours.
I’ll start with the most recent instant noodles discovery of mine (I know I am s-l-o-w): Samyang’s Spicy Fried Chicken Ramen (Buldalk Bokkeummyeon). I picked it up because it was the second most popular instant noodles at the Korean supermarket I was browsing at. There was a huge chilli icon at the price tag indicating hot. That really piqued my curiosity.

Coincidentally, it was also rated second on The Ramen Rater’s Top 10 Spiciest Instant Noodles 2013 Edition (thanks adelinekcy on instagram for the info). Since I love spicy foods, I can’t give this a miss :)

The ramen noodle block. It weighs 110 grams. Unless you are super hungry or a big eater, I think it’s good for two persons to share.
Besides the noodles, each packet also come with two sachets.
Top panel: seaweed and sesame seeds (for garnishing and topping)
Bottom panel: the potent hot sauce
Just cook the noodles in a pot of water for a few minutes. Drain and transfer noodles to serving bowl, add in the hot sauce seasoning and mix well. Did a taste test at this point in time – yes they are indeed very very very hot :D
Sprinkle the sachet of seaweed and sesame seeds to garnish.

Verdict
This is the HOTTEST instant noodles I have tried, even by my standard for someone who loves spicy food. Perhaps I am not that good with spicy foods as I think I am? puhaha … I had bee-stung lips and stuffy eyes/nose while eating. It is quite tasty, just simply too hot for me to finish in one go. They can use this for Running Man challenge – maybe two sachet of sauce for one small serving (haha). I recommend you add half or three-quarter pack of seasoning if this is your first time trying it. I eat this as a mood uplifter – you can’t feel down while your tongue is on fire at the same time, right?

although i dont find it the spiciest (I have done worse lol). I cant lie that I got sweat running down my entire face (eating it while typing). It was quite popular noodle in my place and also my favorite lol

It is halal certified now :) I just tried it yesterday. Yummy! 8/10 on the hotness level!

I am a Muslim and live in UK. I am interested in trying the halal fire noodles with friends, but Korean brands are hard to come across. Do you know where I’d be able to get my hands on a couple of packs of the halal versions?

I am also from the UK and I’ve seen many of these noodles of sale. Starry mart has some! I’m not sure if they are halal but I’ve heard they are ? or are there different batches produced

Yes, from my reader’s feedback, the front packaging now comes with a prominent halal logo (in Singapore). You can check it out for yourself.
I tried these today. I love spicy food, and the guy at my local Indian restaurant always scoffs when I tell him the hottest food I’ve ever eaten was a red curry dish from a Thai restaurant. He gives me peppers to eat and tries his best to out-burn the Thai place, but so far he hasn’t succeeded. So I don’t know if I got an exceptionally hot packet of sauce with my Korean noodles or what the deal was, but these were brutal. I was actually shocked by just how spicy they were. Lips and tongue burning, beads of sweat on my face, drinking fruit smoothie between every bite. I couldn’t finish the whole thing, and I’m a little ashamed to admit it. They are very, very hot. Tasty though…

Hi I’m from Malaysia and I bought the same as yours (as shown in the picture) but I can’t seem to find the halal logo? I’m a little concern whether its halal. Though I’ve read from somewhere that SamyangFood has released a halal version since November 2015.
The ones here now have the halal logo, so I think the one you bought is a different batch? Maybe you can contact the distributor for more information.
Does it contain meant. I am a vegiterian and i really want to try it.

no it doesnt contain meat, but they have chicken flavouring. however as i concern vegetarian still eat animal product isnt it (like milk, cheese) but i dont know about the stock/flavouring from animal
wheres the halal logo? :( my parent do not give me permission to eat this samyang cause my parents do not found the halal logo:’) whereas me and my friend want to make a samyang challenge:(

HI, i hope you found that logo if you haven’t the noodles in bowl form, it is located on the side at the bottom. in packet form it is very easy to spot its just on top of the fork
