This is a nutrient-packed kale, banana & strawberry smoothie. It is loaded with fiber and healthy antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. When I’m home, this is a huge treat for me if I get to start my day with a yummy smoothie like this, as it preps my body to eat cleaner for the rest of the day. It is also great to drink this post-workout to replenish lost fluids and energy.
These are the solid ingredients that goes into my smoothie (not the actual amount and not to scale): there are kale, banana, strawberries, chia seeds and flax seeds. I always love to sneak in a banana in my smoothie for natural sweetness and to make it more filling. The liquid ingredients are coconut water and maple syrup (which one can omit if eating low-carb). I was using frozen banana and strawberries which I prepared in a sealed ziplock bag so that I can make smoothie anytime. You can replace strawberries with your favourite seasonal berries. You will need a high-powered blender to pulse the all the ingredients efficiently, especially if you are using frozen fruits. I’m using a 900W nutribullet which blends my smoothie in less than 30 seconds.
For best results, use ripe or overripe banana so that the drink will be naturally sweet and hence reduce the need for sweetener (honey or maple syrup).
* coarsely torn leaves from roughly 5 large curly kale stems
Pulse all the ingredients in the blender until smooth. Serve immediately.
