Simple Prosciutto Toast

This is my first time buying prosciutto di Parma (Parma ham) from the supermarket, so this simple prosciutto toast salad was a too-simple recipe for my family to do a taste test of eating prosciutto in its uncooked form. I plated the prosciutto toast with what’s available in my fridge – salad greens, cherry tomato, lemon and balsamic vinaigrette. How I wish I had an avocado or a poached egg!

Visually we are not used to seeing the raw meat colour, even though we are accustomed to eating sashimi (raw fish). But the taste of the prosciutto turned out to be rather safe – just very salty like bacon (so now I have an idea of cooking it as if it is bacon)! I think that prosciutto is an instant way of making a plate looked more gourmet.

This is my packet of prosciutto di Parma (aka Parma ham). Prosciutto is expensive here, so when I saw a buy-1-get-1-free promotion at Cold Storage, I bought it right away to try it out to quip my curiosity.

STEP-BY-STEP PHOTOS

1. Make quick (short-cut) garlic toast

On thick slices of baguette (I was using artisan bread), sprinkle garlic powder and spread some butter.

Cook the bread on both sides in a heated pan until lightly toasted & golden.

2. Plate It

On each piece of garlic toast, place one slice of folded prosciutto. Serve the prosciutto toast with some salad greens, tomatoes, lemon and salad dressing – or whatever is available in your fridge, the more ingredients, the merrier! After this experiment of eating prosciutto raw, I’m going to try various ways of cooking the rest of the prosciutto :)

  1. It might be simple, but very tasty! Prosciutto is one of my favourites.

  2. Recently, I started making garlic bread using garlic powder. Much more convenient – no need to 抹戀 to mince garlic.
